Construction marketing agency cost usually runs between CA$1,500 and CA$15,000 a month, or roughly US$1,100 to US$10,800. Where you land depends on three things: how many channels the agency runs, how competitive your market is, and who your buyers are. Ad spend is almost always a separate budget on top.
This guide breaks down what each price band buys, what pushes the number up, and how to set a budget you can defend. We also publish our own prices, so you can compare us against everyone else.

Construction marketing agency cost in 2026: the three price bands
Agency pricing is easier to judge once you have an outside benchmark. Ahrefs polled 439 SEO providers and found that agencies charge about US$3,209 a month on average for SEO alone. Local SEO averaged US$1,557 a month. In other words, a single channel from a single agency often costs more than contractors expect.
Construction marketing usually covers more than search. As a result, most retainers fall into three bands.
| Band | Monthly (CAD) | Monthly (approx. USD) | What it usually covers | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $1,500 – $3,000 | $1,100 – $2,200 | Google Business Profile, local SEO, website care, monthly report | Single-location trade contractor, renovator or design studio |
| Growth | $3,000 – $6,000 | $2,200 – $4,300 | Starter, plus content, paid ads management and email | Established contractor, home builder or regional manufacturer |
| Full programme | $6,000 – $15,000+ | $4,300 – $10,800+ | Growth, plus video, PR, trade-show support and several markets | Building product manufacturers, distributors and multi-location firms |
The USD figures use a rate of about 0.72 US dollars per Canadian dollar. Check the Bank of Canada for today’s rate before you compare quotes.
What pushes the price up or down
Two agencies can quote very different numbers for the same brief. Usually, the gap in construction marketing agency cost comes from scope, not greed. Four factors do most of the work.
How many channels the agency runs
Each channel needs its own skills. Search, paid ads, social media, email and video are separate jobs. Consequently, a retainer that covers one channel will always cost less than one that covers five. Start with the channel your buyers actually use, then add more once it pays for itself.
How competitive your market is
A roofer in a large US metro competes with dozens of firms for the same searches. By contrast, a millwork shop in a mid-sized Canadian city may have three real rivals online. More competition means more content, more links and more ad budget before results show up.
Who your buyers are
Homeowners often decide in weeks. Architects, general contractors and dealers can take months. For example, a window manufacturer needs spec sheets, CAD files and a trade-show presence, not just Google reviews. That longer, more technical sale takes more work to support, so it costs more.
How much original content you need
Real project photos and video beat stock images every time. However, a shoot day costs money, and so does editing. Ask whether photography and video sit inside the retainer or get quoted separately.

Agency fees and ad spend are two different budgets
The retainer pays for the people. Ad spend pays Google, Meta or LinkedIn for the clicks. Keep the two apart, because many quotes blur them.
Before you sign, ask three direct questions:
- Is ad spend included in this price, or billed on top?
- Do you add a percentage or markup to our ad spend?
- Whose name are the ad accounts in?
You should own every ad account. If the agency pays the platforms and bills you later, ask to see the platform invoices. Our guide to Google Ads for contractors explains how to set a sensible starting spend.
Agency or in-house marketer: which costs less?
On paper, one full-time marketer looks cheaper than a team. In practice, the salary is only the start. You also pay benefits, software, training and the cost of hiring. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks what marketing managers earn, and the salary alone sits well above most agency retainers.
A single hire also covers only one or two skills. Meanwhile, an agency brings a strategist, a designer, an SEO specialist and an ads manager for one monthly fee. That is why many firms keep one internal coordinator and hire an agency for the specialist work. Not sure you need either yet? Read our 7 signs you need a marketing agency.
Pricing red flags to watch for
A cheap quote is not always a saving. Watch for these warning signs:
- Contracts longer than 12 months with heavy exit fees
- A vague “strategy fee” with no list of deliverables
- Guaranteed first-page rankings or a fixed number of leads
- Your website, domain or ad accounts held in the agency’s name
- Reports that show clicks but never enquiries or signed work

How to set your marketing budget
Start from the value of a new client, not from what a competitor spends. Then work backwards.
- Know what a new job is worth. If an average project brings in $40,000 in gross profit, one extra job a quarter easily covers a Growth-band retainer.
- Pick one priority channel. For most contractors, that means local search and a strong Google Business Profile. For manufacturers, it usually means specification content and search.
- Commit for at least six months. Construction SEO typically takes three to six months to build momentum. Paid ads, by contrast, can bring enquiries within weeks.
- Price it in your own currency. Canadian agencies often invoice US clients in US dollars. Because of the exchange rate, construction marketing agency cost can work out noticeably lower for a US firm that hires north of the border.

Frequently asked questions
Most construction companies pay between CA$1,500 and CA$15,000 a month, or about US$1,100 to US$10,800. The price depends on how many channels you need, how competitive your market is and who your buyers are. Ad spend is usually extra.
Usually not. The retainer pays the agency’s team, while ad spend goes directly to Google, Meta or LinkedIn. Always ask whether a quote includes ad spend and whether the agency adds a markup.
Plan for at least six months. SEO and content take three to six months to build, although paid ads can bring enquiries sooner. Avoid contracts longer than 12 months with exit fees.
Often, yes. Canadian agencies price in Canadian dollars, which trade at a discount to the US dollar. As a result, a Canadian agency in the same time zone can cost a US firm noticeably less for the same scope.
Start with a complete Google Business Profile, a fast website with real project photos and a steady flow of reviews. These cost little and support every other channel you add later.
